About Two Roots
Two Roots Media started with a crazy idea:
make Kung fu-grip Hindu action figures. Think Lord Rama with working
bow and arrow. When we hit the temples to do a preliminary taste
test, the voice of aunties and uncles rang loud and clear: "Oh no.
I'm not giving that to my children. They'll put their mouths on
it." So much for that.
But we didn't stop there. Instead, we thought
long hard thoughts about getting some books published, making movies,
and doing TV shows, with the ultimate goal of being the definitive
source of high-quality, informative, and entertaining South Asian
media. We still want to do that.
So, we decided to pump our favorite
stuff out to you through the internet. Read first-hand stories from people
who had the guts to sell their Honda Accords (so to speak) and dive
into non-traditional professions. We have colorful
synopses of the latest Bollywood phillums. Get advice from our even-keeled
advice columnist, Abha, who does not know your parents and will
not tell on you. And keep tuning in for our web soap: EFGH.
With the money we could have used for haircuts
and lunch, we started this website to bring some of the stuff we
actually like to read and write about. We don't have an agenda,
other than keeping young South Asians informed and entertained with
the baddest stuff online.
Who Are Vee?
Vidya Sundaram
is the founder of Two Roots Media. She is fair-skinned, homely, issueless....
oops, wrong profile. Vidya would be happier if all grown-ups had large heads
and small bodies.
Amy Schneirow is
one cool desi fly chick. She's moving to Seattle to start the first
all-girl bhangra flannel grunge band.
Vanita Soni
has no desire to be on American Idol, but is currently developing
a reality Indian cooking show called "American Idli."
